Teriyaki Turkey Wings
Teriyaki Turkey Wings
Turkey wings slow cooked in a flavorful sauce bake up sweet, sticky and delicious! Turkey wings are an inexpensive cut of meat and this is one of may favorite ways to cook them. Let me show you the simple steps to make this tasty treat. This is another recipe stolen um I mean adapted from my parents so thanks Mom and Dad!
First, cut up the wings
Cut the turkey wings into sections. My parents gave me this batch of turkey wings on our last visit to South Carolina and I’ve kept them in my freezer for a while. After thawing them in the refrigerator I rinsed and pat them dry. Using a chefs knife I separated the wing at the joint. These wings came with the tips removed (kind of a bummer because the wing tips are my favorite part!) normally I would just leave the tips attached and separate the drummet part.
Next, make your sauce
In a roasting pan, mix the soy sauce with brown sugar, pepper, apple cider vinegar, garlic, ginger and red pepper flakes together. Place the turkey wings in the roasting pan in one layer.
BAKE
Cover the roasting pan with foil and bake low and slow. Turn the wings over half way through cooking so both sides get nice and saucy. After a couple of hours remove the foil and crank up the heat. The sauce will reduce to a sweet/salty/stick glaze. Turn the wings in the sauce a few times during the high heat faze to get them all coated.
Spoon the sauce over some rice and serve the Teriyaki Turkey Wings with a side of green beans. That’s just a suggestion, you can serve them any way you want, I won’t judge.
- 1 cup soy sauce
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 3 cloves garlic chopped
- 2 teaspoons fresh ginger, peeled grated
- 1-2 teaspoons red pepper flakes (optional)
- 3 pounds of turkey wings
- Pre heat the oven to 325 degrees
- Stir together the soy sauce, brown sugar, pepper, vinegar, garlic, ginger and red pepper flakes
- Pout this mixture into a roasting pan just large enough to fit the turkey wings in one layer
- Cut the turkey wings at the joints and place them in the pan with the soy sauce mixture
- Cover the pan well with foil and bake for 1 hour
- Turn the wings over, cover them again and bake for another hour
- Turn the oven up to 400 degrees
- Remove the foil and turn the wings again. bake for another half hour. (this will reduce the glaze and the wings will become sticky)
- Serve with rice
