How to make an Omelet in just a few easy steps. Omelets are a delicious, inexpensive meal that’a a great way to turn left over meat and veggies into a brand new meal. EGGS + CHEESE = DELICIOUS!
If you can scramble an egg, you can make an omelet making this the perfect dish to teach teens how to cook. I’ve been really focusing on helping my kids get their life skills together lately. The two youngest ones are well into highs school and I’m not trying to send them into the world without the ability to cook, clean, handle money and such. I’m looking forward to having an empty nest soon so those birdies need to know how to FLY! I’ve been cooking with them since they were babies but now it has become time to get a little more serious about training. I figured omelets were a good place to start.
Here’s a video of the kids and I making omelets and frittatas, they were less than enthusiastic about being on camera but they got over it after their bellies were full of eggs and cheese!

How to make an Omelet
I used 2 large eggs (use 3 if you have a bigger appetite) and an 8 inch nonstick skillet like the one pictured in the Amazon affiliate link below
1 Your fillings should be chopped, cooked (if they need cooking) and ready to go. Saute onions, mushrooms, peppers. Squeeze the moisture out of cooked spinach. Chop cooked ham and chicken into small cubes
2 The key to a great omelet is to beat your eggs well. Beat them vigorously for up to two minutes. You don’t need to add any milk or water, just beat the eggs like they stole something until you have a homogeneously blended mixture
3 Put a little butter into a warm non-stick omelet pan and let it melt. Swirl the pan to coat the bottom of the pan.
4 Pour the beaten eggs into the omelet pan and mix with a heat resistant silicon spatula ( I like to use silicon so I don’t scratch the non stick coating of the omelet pan)
Cook your omelet over medium/low heat, even remove it from the heat occasionally to control the temperature. Use the silicon spatula to move the loose egg around and underneath the omelete
5 Add 2-3 tablespoons of filling
6 Shift the omelet to the side of the pan and use the silicon spatula to begin to fold omelet over toward the center.
Roll the omelet out onto your plate. FINISHED!
