Some of the alcohol in the recipe cooks out but not all of it. Keep this in mind when you are making this for kids.

If you like lots of fruit in your French Toast try my PANETTONE FRENCH TOAST RECIPE it’s a really tasty dish! I love to make this for brunch on Christmas Day.

I love the addition orange zest in this recipe, it adds a lot of bright flavor to the dish.

What kind of bread do you use for French Toast?

I like to a loaf of thick French or Italian bread that has not been sliced (see the photo above). I like to slice it myself so I can cut the bread into one-inch pieces. If you like a more buttery bread you can make Brioche French toast or challah for an eggier French toast.

How do you make French Toast that’s not soggy? How do you make Fluffy French Toast?

Start with a light and airy loaf of bread, not a dense loaf. It’s important not to soak the bread for too long so you don’t get soggy French toast. Soak the bread in the egg batter for about fifteen seconds then flip it over and soak it for another fifteen seconds. Let the excess batter drain before cooking. Slicing the bread into thick pieces also helps make your French toast fluffy.

How do I make Cinnamon French Toast?

EASY! Just mix a teaspoon of ground cinnamon into the egg/milk mixture. You can omit or reduce the orange zest if you’re using cinnamon.

Dip the bread

Slice the bread into one inch thick slices. Dip the bread into the batter for 15 seconds per side. Let the excess batter drip off. Only dip as much bread as you can cook at one time. Work in small batches so the bread does not fall apart.

Heat a pan or griddle

Heat a pan or griddle over a medium flame. If your pan is too hot the outside of the French Toast will burn but the inside will be raw. Melt a teaspoon of butter in the pan and cook the French Toast until it is golden brown on each side, about 3-4 minutes per side.
