kabob land salmon

My family and I don’t eat Mediterranean food often so I wasn’t sure how our visit to Kabob Land was going to go over…SPOILER ALERT, we all left happy. Kabob Land (here’s a link to their website) is a small restaurant on busy Piedmont Road with a patio area as well as an indoor/outdoor space just off the main dining room.

Chef Matt (and his two young sons who were working with him that day) invited us over and treated us to a delicious, complimentary meal that started with an assortment or Mezzes to share. Hummus, babaghanoush, maast-o khiar (thick yogurt with garlic, dill and cucumbers) were served with Lebanese bread to scoop everything up with. We also had a side of white beans (seasoned with garlic, lemon, olive oil and spices) and a serving of mohammara. This was my first taste of mohammara, a mixture of ground walnuts, pomegranate paste, spices and breadcrumbs. I’m not usually a fan of walnuts so I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this dish. It’s a bit sweet and the slight crunch of the chopped walnuts was a nice contrast to the smooth texture of most of the other dishes. The mezzes, sides and salads range in price from $3 to $6.95.

We finished our Mezzes and enjoyed the warm, sunny patio for a few minutes until Chef Matt returned with our Greek salad, sides and main dishes. We enjoyed so many tasty kabobs: lamb, chicken, beef and salmon. These were all good but the salmon was by far the family favorite. Moist and perfectly seasoned the large chunks of salmon disappeared in a heartbeat. Most items here were cooked over an open flame but they also have a rotisserie for shawarma and a brick oven (the space is a former pizza joint). Basmati rice and French fries completed the meal. The wraps and plates vary from $6.95 to $13.95

We’ll definitely be back to enjoy the patio at Kabob Land with the kids. They’re open REALLY late on the weekend, ’till 4am on Friday and Saturday night, we’ll have to check that out WITHOUT the kids.

Thanks again to chef Matt for treating my family and I to such a tasty meal. The food was complementary, the opinion is all mine.

Yum! Mediterranean is my absolute favorite. I love everything from the Italian style , to Indian to Turkish. It is all amazing. I find myself eating it more than Mexican food and once upon a time I everything I ate revolved around Mexican inspiration.
