Cochon Butcher New Orleans – house made cured meats, sandwiches, wine bar, desserts and CURED MEATS..oh did I say that already? I really like cured meats.
BOUDIN. I had never heard of it until I met my husband. His mom is from Louisiana and he grew up eating the pork and rice sausage. Boudin can be hard to find outside of Louisiana so he had not had any for a very long time. We didn’t see boudin on any restaurant menus when we were looking for places to eat while we were in New Orleans. We saw boudin balls which seemed to be the sausage filling without the casing, rolled into balls and fried. That’s not what he wanted. He wanted the real deal boudin that his mom would bring home when he was a kid.
If you’ve just joined us WELCOME! Check out how this trip to New Orleans began HERE
A friend of his told him about Cochon-Butcher so we stopped by on our way out of town. We expected to grab some boudin and go but once we got there we were hooked. We bought the boudin and also some cured deer sausage and sauerkraut…. and the kids each got dessert-my daughter got key lime pie and my son got espresso cheesecake. We ordered all of our things to go but there are tables to dine in as well.
The kids (I guess I should refer to them as the teens and not the kids) RAVED about their desserts they were very happy in the back seat of the car as we hit the road out of town.
When you walk in Butcher there’s a little model of Butcher Restaurant with some interesting charactersÂ
We picked up some dry ice on our way out of New Orleans and packed it with the boudin in a cooler bag we brought with us. He cooked up that boudin and all the memories came back. It was the real deal, took him right back to childhood. The kids really enjoyed the boudin too, I wish we had bought more!
I definitely need to go back to Cochon Butcher so I can dine in, it’s worth a revisit. They also have a location in Nashville which is a little closer to where I live…maybe Nashville will be our next family road trip.
