Marlow’s Tavern makes very good margaritas and thanks to Marlow’s Taverns’s adult beverage director Rick Blumberg I know their secret. The keys to great margaritas are great tequila (of course) and house made sour mix.
Their BLOOD ORANGE MARGARITA is made with Herradura Resposado Tequila, Pur Blood Orange Spice Liqueur, Fresh Lemon and Clement Sirop de Canne. This was an absolutely delicious, dangerously drinkable creation.
The classic margarita, made with Altos Tequila Plata was a real treat. I’ve got some Altos in my home bar so I felt a sense of validation when I saw him bring this out. Altos Plata is light, fruity and blends well with natural citrus.
The house made sour mix is a thing of beauty. It starts with just citrus peels (no white pith please) and granulated sugar mixed and left to sit for 24 hours. After a day water is added and the peels are removed. Simple and delicious. I’ll definitely be making this at home.Add some tequila and your favorite juice and you’ve got one terrific margarita.
Four lemons and five limes should do the trick. Add a cup of sugar and let it sit…well, you should shake it up a bit!

New Marlow’s locations are popping up fast. I need to visit their Avalon Alpharetta location really soon. It’s perfect for dinner and movie, the theater is right next door. That may be my next date night with hubby. Margaritas at Marlow’s and stroll to a movie. PERFECT!
