The kind folks at Templeton Rye challenged me to create a baseball inspired cocktail with their delicious whiskey. The lyrics for the song “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” date back to the early 1900’s and Templeton Rye Whiskey goes back nearly as far. When I think of baseball my mind automatically goes to that sweet caramel coated popcorn treat with the prize inside memorialized in the song so I’ve named my cocktail “Katie Casey” after a character in that song. “Katie Casey” only wants her boyfriend to take her out to the ball game and no where else, she’s a real fan of the sport…I think she likes WHISKEY too, but that’s just a guess.

To get that tasty caramel corn flavor into my cocktail, I made a syrup by simmering caramel corn in water for about 10 minutes, then letting it steep for another 10 minutes. I strained the solids out and was left with a corny, sweet thin liquid. The spiciness of Templeton Rye combines well with the mild sweetness that the caramel corn syrup adds. Stir it all together with ice and some cinnamon flavored bitters, strain into a glass and it’s ready to drink.

There was one big challenge I found when creating this cocktail- my husband and I tasted Templeton Rye and it was so delicious we nearly drank it all before creating this recipe. We were able to show some restraint but I can tell you that I will be purchasing another bottle VERY soon. Templeton Rye is smooth with a bit of spice and incredibly sip-able.

So, Batter UP! I had a great time creating Cocktails with Templeton Rye, I hope you try this recipe. If you do please let me know in the comments below.

Thanks again to the kind folks at Templeton Rye for providing a bottle of this delicious whiskey, all opinions are my own
