Our kids (ages 14 and 15 at the time of our visit) both found a few things to pique their curiosity.

The Southern Food and Beverage Museum New Orleans is a collection of artifacts and exhibits collected from around the South Eastern United States. It is truly a celebration of the South and all the good food it has to offer.

Each state in the Southern Reigon of our country is represented by a collection of goods and foods that are produced there.

Its also home to The Photography of Modernist Cuisine: The Exhibition a collection of large format food photography by Nathan Myhrvold and his team. This exhibition runs through March 2016 so catch it if you can. These photographs were the most compelling part of visit for our younger child. There is even a video component to this exhibit with close up shots of food being dropped, shattered or shot in slow motion.

I was shocked at how fascinated my daughter was by the story of New Orleans born restaurateur Al Copeland and Popeyes Fried Chicken (among other restaurant chains), I found his story inspirational as well. Al Copeland left high school at 16 and at 18 sold his car to purchase a doughnut shop, thus beginning his career in the restaurant business.

The Museum of the American Cocktail and La Galerie d’Absinthe (an exhibit dedicated to all things Absinthe) are also displayed at this location. This is not the most kid friendly part of the museum, but there is enough to keep older kids and teens occupied.
