How to make homemade spaghetti sauce

Servings: 5 cups

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon dry oregano
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • one- 28 ounce can whole peeled tomatoes
  • one - 14 ounce can of tomato sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • 2-3 fresh basil leaves

Method
 

  1. Slice the garlic cloves into thin slices
  2. In a cold 4 quart pot add olive oil garlic and dry oregano. Turn the heat on to medium/low and saute the sliced garlic for 1 minute. Add the tomato paste and cook, stirring for another minute
  3. Crush the whole peeled tomatoes with your hand and add the tomatoes in it;s juice to the pan
  4. Stir in the tomato sauce and add the red pepper flakes if using
  5. Simmer the sauce for 15 minutes
  6. Tear the basil (if you're using it) into pieces and add them to the sauce
  7. Serve
