Willie Mae’s Scotch House New Orleans Icon Traveling with Teens. 

After we got our appetites back from our sight seeing tour of the French Market we called for an UBER and headed to Willie Mae’s Scotch House. There are some places that get so much hype that you just have to go to find out for yourself, this is one of those places. This restaurant is said to have the BEST FRIED CHICKEN IN THE COUNTY by those who are supposed to know.

We heard that the restaurant gets a long line every day so we got there early. That’s my best advice to you for this restaurant get there early to avoid a long wait. A line forms alongside the building and in the Summertime you to not want to be standing out there in the heat. They open at 10 am, we arrived shortly after and were seated right away.

We ordered both white and dark meat fried chicken and a bunch of sides, fried okra, mashed potatoes, peas, macaroni and cheese, all the usual suspects. Service was friendly and efficient.  After a bit of a wait (I’m not complaining, I don’t mind waiting when I know someone is cooking my food fresh)  it all arrived. The fried chicken is tasty very moist and juicy. The flavor was good, minimally seasoned not too salty,  but the SKIN! It’s the impossibly light incredibly crispy skin that makes this fried chicken special. The skin of the chicken shatters between your teeth and disappears almost immediately, like it wasn’t even there.

The side dishes were good, creamy/saucy mac and cheese, the crunchy fried okra was pretty standard. I was happy we went, my curiosity was satisfied.

By the time we left the restaurant it was nearly noon and there was a substantial line of people outside of the restaurant waiting for tables.

We called for UBER to take us back to the Drury Inn so we could relax before heading back out for a tour of Mardi Gras World where we got a look at the … <<READ MORE>>

There are quite a lot of good cheap places that offer American meals that won’t leave you out of pocket. If you are seeking out a high quality dining venue there are a number of these, but be sure to have a prior reservation also ensure you are dressed correctly. If you just wish to eat without glamour the well known chain brands such as Burger King, McDonalds etc, but if you are seeking something real why not ask a local and see where they recommend.
