Every year for my daughter’s birthday our family plans to go out to dinner, and every year our plans go completely wrong. Last year we attempted to try a Brazilian steakhouse that we had never been to. We took one look at the place and walked out, it looked a bit dicey. (I’m not going to name names). Plus they wouldn’t accept the Groupon we purchased earlier that day. We then spent the afternoon driving around trying to find a restaurant that she would enjoy. We considered visiting a Chinese buffet that we’d been to a few times but a quick internet search showed that the restaurant had been permanently closed.

This year we were looking for a fun sushi restaurant for her birthday and wanted to find an Atlanta sushi restaurant with a conveyor belt. Sounds hokey, I know but it also looked like it would be a good time. Another internet search directed us to a restaurant in Alpharetta that had a sushi conveyor belt. We walked into the restaurant but there was no conveyor belt to be found. We asked the manager and wait staff about it but they acted like they had no idea what we were talking about. We looked at the restaurants website and it says “conveyor belt” right there! So we left and drove around Gwinnett county looking for a place to eat. We drove by Breakers, decided to check it out and I am SO GLAD we did! We’ve tried Korean BBQ several times around Atlanta and it’s always been good but Breakers was exceptional.

If you’re not familiar with Korean BBQ I’ll give you a brief description. You sit at a table with a grill embedded in it. You order raw meats (some marinated, some not) and the waiter grills it for you (or you can cook it yourself). The meat is served with a large assortment of fermented and fresh vegetables. Here’s where Breakers is a little different. At other Korean BBQ restaurants we were served fresh lettuce leaves to wrap our meats and marinated vegetables in, at Breakers we were served soft  rice paper and pickled daikon as wraps.

We each ordered the All You Can Eat II which includes unlimited servings of Marinated Beef Bulgogi (the family favorite) Beef Brisket, Spicy Pork Ribs, Pork Belly, Spicy Chicken and Squid. You also get soup, salad and rice.

I had totally forgotten that this was an all you can eat meal. After the first round of selections our waiter asked us wanted what we wanted more of. We got a second round of marinated beef bulgogi.

My husband told the waiter that it was our daughter’s birthday so at the end of our meal the waitstaff came to the table with a big slice of cake and sang “Happy Birthday” to her. All in all it was a fantastic birthday and we are all looking forward to going back to Breakers soon.
