funnel cake UniverSoul Circus

UniverSoul Circus is in town…I went for the funnel cakes and stayed for EVERYTHING ELSE!  They put on a fantastic show at UniverSoul Circus, I was afraid that my kids (who are in their teens) would feel like they were too “grown up” for the circus but I must say they had a blast. We took them to UniverSoul Circus some years ago, back when they were in elementary school, they didn’t remember a lot about that first visit. When we walked into the big top some memories started to com back to them…maybe more feelings than memories at first. I think the smell of the funnel cakes was the first trigger, we all just began to  feel happy and hungry.Since it was a special occasion we let them both have whatever treats they wanted. Funnel cake is mandatory at the circus and festivals and they make a really tasty one at UniverSoul Circus. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and vanilla flavored throughout. My daughter felt her’s was cooked unevenly, one part had an underdone, almost liquid like texture while another part was slightly overcooked. She ate most of it, I finished the rest and enjoyed it.

I ordered Soul Hot Wings from the concession stand, they were moist and juicy…not too hot and spicy, not crispy but still tasty. They’ve got  hot dogs, nachos with cheese, sno-cones, popcorn as well at the concession stand so you won’t go hungry.

…and Cotton Candy OF COURSE! You can’t not get cotton candy at the circus. It’s probably illegal…I’m not a lawyer so don’t quote me on that. The cotton candy comes with a little animal visor which we all wore at some point during the evening. Popcorn vendors also roam the aisles. Drinks can be purchased at the concession stand or inside the big top.

Now onto the show…which was FANTASTIC! I remember that I enjoyed it years ago but I had an even better time this year. I must say that I was surprised at how much my teens enjoyed it. The show is interactive Lucky the Ringmaster and Zeke got us all up and dancing to music from my generation (Poison-BBD) as well as current radio hits (Flawless-Beyonce) and even a few hits from the way back machine (RESPECT-Aretha Franklin). Fresh The Clownsss steal the show and gets the kids moving too. They perform throughout the show and pose for pictures with the audience. Camel rides are available before the show starts and at intermission.

UniverSoul Circus has one ring and a fairly small venue so there’s not a bad seat in the house. Everyone gets a great view of the acts. Trinity, three young ladies from Ethiopia, perform and intricate hand balancing act that must be seen to be believed, their grace and strength is amazing.

One act was more death defying than the next, I held my breath from the beginning, as Vertigo (also from Ethiopia) did his indescribable Rolla Bolla act. The Wheel of Death, the amazing elephant act, Color Me Caribbean Carnival dancers from Trinidad and Tobago, Wuhan Flying Trapeze from China (Wuhan) and so many amazing acts came from around the globe. Catch the show while you can, its in Atlanta through March 1st 2015 at Turner Field, green lot. Check UniverSoulCircus.com the tour schedule.

Thank so much to UniverSoul Circus for the show tickets. You’ve helped us create a wonderful family memory and I truly appreciate it. Get more show details from UniverSoulCircus.com.

You had me at funnel cake. I definitely can’t go to a circus, carnival, or fair and not have a funnel cake. I went to the UniverSoul Circus over the weekend and had a blast! I think I enjoyed it more than my 13 year old sister. It really is the best circus ever. I hope everyone catches a show while they are in town. I might have to go back just to try some of the other great food you wrote about.

I had such a great time but what made me the happiest was getting my teens away from their multiple screens and out having some good clean family fun. I thought they might feel that they’d outgrown the circus but they both really got into it. I hadn’t seen them dance in such a long time.

Funnel cakes are definitely mandatory when we or to a carnival or circus. That’s the one thing we can all agree on! Thanks so much for visiting.
